Jordao High School

Our Core Values

Our values guide everything we do — from teaching and learning to behaviour and relationships. They reflect our history as a small, independent school committed to high standards, mutual respect, and personal growth.
Excellence
We strive for academic and personal excellence in every learner. We expect effort, accountability, honesty, and active participation in learning. We celebrate achievement and support learners to overcome challenges with determination and resilience.
Pride
We take pride in who we are — our school, our work, our behaviour, and our appearance. Pride reflects self-respect and respect for others, and it is seen in the way our learners conduct themselves.
Respect

Respect is the foundation of all relationships at Jordao High School.
Learners are expected to show respect for:

  • themselves
  • their peers
  • teachers and support staff
  • school facilities
  • the diverse cultures, religions, and identities within South Africa.

We believe that excellence is personal, and that every learner deserves the support and opportunity to thrive.

What We Stand For

Human Dignity & Diversity

We value the rich cultural and social diversity of South Africa. Every learner is expected to uphold the dignity of others and ensure that their actions do not infringe on the rights of those around them.

Safety & Responsibility
The safety of our learners comes first. We maintain clear rules and expectations, and every learner is expected to behave responsibly and avoid actions that put others at risk.
Positive Discipline
We believe in balanced discipline that develops self-control, accountability, and maturity. We use both positive reinforcement and corrective measures to guide learners towards responsible behaviour.
Individuality with Responsibility
Learners are permitted to express themselves — through informal uniform options, hairstyles, and personal identity — as long as this is done with dignity and respect. Personal appearance reflects personal pride and consideration for others.
Open Communication & Partnership with Parents
We maintain an open-door policy. Parents and learners are encouraged to speak directly with senior staff about academic, behavioural, or personal matters. We expect parents to be active partners in their child’s education, to support school expectations, and to work with us in developing responsible, motivated young adults.
Zero Tolerance for Bullying & Victimisation

We are committed to a safe and respectful learning environment.
We do not tolerate any form of:

  • bullying
  • physical or verbal harassment
  • racism
  • intimidation
  • discrimination
  • initiation practices
